Tambo asks: What ten elements/words do you associate with your writing?
This was one of the most interesting and intriguing questions I've seen in a while. So here's my answer:
1. Pain
2. Emotions
3. Rationale
4. Science
5. Distorted
6. Flaws
7. Sex
8. Love
9. Weakness
10. Strength
What are yours?

Tough one, Melly.
I think I could stop by tomorrow and come up with an entirely different list. I would also say this would be interesting to post a year from today.

1. Inner turmoil
2. Desperation
3. Dialogue
4. Change
5. Genre-blending
6. Pain
7. Strength
8. Trust (and distrust)
9. Esoteric
10. Terror
Michael, you make an interesting point. I'm pretty sure that a year ago I would have had some other elements.
Very interesting elements, btw, the making of very serious, provocative fiction.
Jennifer, knowing you, it's almost what I expected to see. Also probably because you write YA. The elements are you :) Although the science one took me by surprise, especially since the other elements are so... fantasy. You know what I mean? THe frustration, the adventure, the growth...
Fred, I can identify with many of the elements you mentioned. Also, from reading a bit of your flash, I expected some of them. I think we might have similar themes on different genres.
1. Terror
2. Rage
3. Pain
4. Strength
5. Courage
7. Love
8. Stamina
9. Insanity
10.Rational/Irrational
Like Michael said, this was a tough one. But it was fun. Thanks for sharing!
Deborah, that list is so you.
I don't know why I'm so surprised everybody's giving lists that are inline with what I know about them.
I mean, I've read your flash, and I know a bit about Proseperity and your interest which is well packaged into that list.
Jennifer, you're right. Science has so many aspects and I always only think of the one I choose to relate to.
Interesting one :-). Can't resist.
1. Humour
2. Observation
3. Detail
4. Contrast
5. Anthropomorphism
6. Magic
7. Froth
8. Disillusion
9. Fear
10. Darkness
LOL! You're funny, Melly. :)
Diddums, if you can do all that with humour, then you're my hero :)
Deborah, you mean more like... ahem, stupid, right? I mean, how did I not expect this?
I'm still struggling with mine, but I hope to have it together in a day or so.
Let us know when you do then, Jean. I'm curious.
Melly-
I forgot to say thanks for the link!

Well, the froth bit is easy - LOL. You've got me thinking, though. Some one who genuinely deals with the dark side of life in a humorous way is Terry Pratchett. Look at his portrayal of Death.
My absolute pleasure Michael :)
Yeah, Diddums, I figured the froth would be easy :)
I haven't read Terry Pratchett. Any reccommended book to start with?
As you know, I finally got it: http://www.mercuryranch.org/blog/2006/06/19/ten-elements/
Oh, and it's a great list!
I think the first 2 books by Terry Pratchett are:
The Light Fantastic
The Colour of Magic
Both fun enough, but there are better ones later on... the whole tone seems to change.
Thanks Diddums. I'll check them out.
