How would you like it if instead of using pen and paper, or instead of using a keyboard, you could just put your thoughts immediately onto the screen.
Would that be cool? Time saving? Make you write much more?
Wait no more. The Mental Typewriter is here and it's controlled by thought alone.
From New Scientist:
A computer controlled by the power of thought alone has been demonstrated at a major trade fair in Germany.
...
The machine makes it possible to type messages onto a computer screen by mentally controlling the movement of a cursor. A user must wear a cap containing electrodes that measure electrical activity inside the brain, known as an electroencephalogram (EEG) signal, and imagine moving their left or right arm in order to manoeuvre the cursor around.
...
The next stage is to develop a cap that does not have to be attached directly to the scalp. This should make the device easier to use and cause less skin irritation for the wearer.
Good, because I was really concerned about skin irritation. Now when can I buy one?

I'll wait for the wireless model
I don't know if I'd honestly want one....first off, the feeling of hand going over paper is amazing (which is what I'd rather use than computers...)....but when I do use computers...I'm not that foscused to have my only stream of thought be....what I want written. lol I'm too all over the place for this.
I think I'll wait around for the hat that records dreams....that, that will be my baby.
Georganna, I was thinking the exact same thing! LOL :)
Batty, I wonder when they'll invent such a thing. I'm sure they will. I'll get that one too, although sometimes I'm not so sure I want to remember my dreams...
This, along with a retinal HUD, will make all my dreams of an ideal telepathic society come true.
Ideal telepathic society - gotta hear more of that, Jonathan.
Michael, I totally understand where you're going with this, but actually the reason for developing this isn't so that we'll all have an easier time, it's for people who are paralyzed. It's an aide for them so that they could use the computer. So I do think the cause is good.
But you're right, I think we're going towards some bionics, and I do wonder how it will affect us...
As a man I would not want one of these at work. I don't need a coworker wandering by when I have one of those thoughts that men have every 8 seconds.
LOL Kalbzayn. Yeah, better keep those to yourself :) :)
Still laughing...
definately an easier route for us writers
I would not trust myself with this device...
Sally, exactly my first reaction :)
Rob, on the same line as Kalbzayn? ;)
