Will be back January 17th

Okay, so I'm going away tomorrow.
I'm actually flying into Texas and will end up at some point at NASA's Space Center in Houston. How exciting is that???

I won't be able to post at all the next ten days.

BUT

But, when I come back I promise we'll continue to tackle organization in writing (as I desperately need more of it), and perhaps even, following so many who have remarked in the Writing Dialogue post their dislike for descriptive language, both reading and writing it, we'll discuss that too.
I mean, didn't someone really smart once said that it's all relative? So doesn't it depend on how good the descriptions are? Fine descriptive language can be exhilarating both to read and to write. But we'll talk about it when I come back.

melly, are you secretly in the secret service? 10 days! - we'll miss you.

Not so secretly anymore, I guess ;)

I'm almost done packing. Just need to organize my palm and books and the notebooks I always take with me... so much work... but then tomorrow I'll be in that much better weather :)

Thanks rdl, I'll miss y'all too.

I hope you have lots of fun.

I can't wait for your post on description. It can always go both ways. Too much can sometimes make reading tedious, and not enough can make the book just plain boring.

Oh...is the trip a 'fun' trip or 'work' trip? You're at least heading to some warmer weather :) If you're one for warm weather in winter.

Have fun and I'll wait impatiently to discuss descriptive writing...now that is one aspect of writing I truely don't care for. I have to work WAY too hard on it :) Yeah I'm not very good at descriptions, or at least enthralling descriptions.

Have fun. We expect a full report when you get back. :)

Organization in writing? Sounds like exactly what I need! I'll be back to visit on the 16th. Till then, enjoy your trip!

Organization in writing -- a topic just about every writer at every level can use a refresher on.

Enjoy the trip, and let us know how the Space Center is (I've never been).

I wonder if it's description (of a different type) that helps one empathise with the characters. I know the most boring books (that I end up skipping through) are the ones that have shallow characters.

Recently I read a book that I found strange - it seemed to alternate between good, solid, descriptive passages (making the story come alive) and very skimpy narrative. Everything happened at lightning speed and quite often you could never remember who was who or what they were doing there. Sometimes I wondered if the book was written by two people (though it only had one name attached to it) - or if the writer got bored herself and didn't flesh it out properly, despite having the ability to do so.

It would be too easy to do - lose interest. Having it all in your head but no energy to put it on paper...

Zzz... (falling aslee...)

Benjamin, Jennifer, Karen - thanks :)
Can't wait to get back to regualr posting myself. But first I must unwind and go visit the lot of you :)

(It was definitely a pleasure rather than business trip, Jennifer, escaping the winter indeed!).

Patry, David, Rose - oh, gosh! I feel the pressure.
But yes, orgainzation, orgainzation, organization - that's my motto and I'm sticking to it (and if you look back a few posts at my messy desk I'll deny it flat out!) ;)

rdl, I just talked to my mom (haven't talked to her while I was away) and yes, she confirmed that she wants to concentrate more on her art so she said good-bye to her blog.
Sad but true... :(

Hi there Diddums - please please don't forget to bring up these points again. Or maybe I'll add them to the description post, 'cause you being quite a few important points.

Hello there, just checked in (had my head down over something else for a few days).

You reminded me how I felt about that book when I read your starting piece on descriptive language. You're welcome to use these points - I probably cut the ground from under your blog entry and you were going to say those things anyway - cough. (Crawls under desk).

Oh, no worries on both counts, Diddums :)
