Last, in case your new year's resolution was to lose weight, beware that a new study found that Gluttony is good for you: "The fatter you are, the less likely you are to get depressed and commit suicide" ... "Scientists in Bristol have discovered that fat people are more cheerful than their thin peers."

Depends on what kind of "fat" we're talking about here... because 20 kilos overweight definitely didn't make me more cheerful and less prone to feel down :P

Ahhh see I always think that to some degree we can prove any theory we want. Whether it be 'fat' people being happy than 'thin' people or the reverse. :)

Welcome to 2006! Can you believe another year has passed us by? I'm not sure where it went, but it sure flew by!

Of course, of course Yzabel, I hear you. Anyone who is depressed because s/he is overweight should take measures to make themselves happy.
But the study talks in general about the hedonists among us vs. those with self-control and doesn't reveal anything new really - hedonists are happier. But it's fascinating.

That this article is fascinating, although I don't agree with the author's theory (although I like it). Who you are inside determines how happy you're going to be.

Perhaps it's more like "people who don't obsess on things like appearance are happier."

My writing partner--[looks around nervously]--is a tad chubby and has no desire to lose weight. She's quite happy.

I find people who are always whinging about their latest diet, calories, blah-blah-blah, tedious. Of course, I also find health nuts--people who exercise like mad and only eat healthy, etc.--just as tedious.

But I'm mean and nasty and self-absorbed. :)

I know, Fred. You don't hear it that often. For some reason people always say that moderation and balance is good for you. Well, to that I say, what do they know? And here's the proof!

I must say that just about everything is both good and bad for you in some way. Be it wine, eggs, sugar, fasting, binging, or blogging ... the more studies that come out, the more confused we all get.

Except for green jelly beans. They are completely good and wholesome.

Only yesterday I found this news article about the connection between sugary drinks and brain power. Again, there's no real surprise at the findings! http://news.scotsman.com/index.cfm?id=68342006
